Spas

Twenty years ago, going to a European spa (if you could find one) usually meant draconian diets, toe-curlingly painful Swedish massages and dips in ill-managed hot springs. More recently, when spa resorts started popping up everywhere, they invariably seemed to be full of women with more money than sense. Who would voluntarily spend over €100 to be covered in mud and wrapped in cling film? However, those women knew what they were up to. Pampering is no longer just a wealthy woman's way of passing the time: we’ve all realized that a long weekend spent at a spa is an ideal way to switch off. And we're spoilt for choice now - there is every sort of retreat imaginable and at last spas have lost their gender bias: spas which cater for men are big business; and spas in hotels with added activities and indulgences are even more desirable. Luxury spas are now targeting the male market, with a whole range of treatments devised specifically for men. Here you can find a list of the most prestigious spas around the world.
